For the better or for the worse?

I am 24 and have absolutely no experiences with investing.
After payaing off student loan and cost of living/expenses, I will have about 50K saving by Dec 2009.
I plan to do the following investment/finance based on the 50K:
401K –> 16.5K (I contribute the max allowed)
CDK –> 20K (I will use this for future house [...]

I saw an article a few weeks on yahoo, and i fogot to save it, but it stated soemthing about saving 2500 and putting into a cd account or something into that effect, and letting it stay there for 20 year span with a 8% interest rate, if anyone read the article or have more [...]
