for me it made my back straight. i had never been able to stand up straight since i was a teenager, and tried lots of things to rectify this but nothing worked. after three months of taichi it just happened by itself. also, taichi cured a friend of mine of really serious depression, that five years of psychiatric medication couldnt help. he also used to be really shy, and now is one of the most confident people i know. a really dramatic transformation. these are the things i have felt or seen firsthand, but there are reports that it helps with balance, blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes [i also lost most of my taste for sweet things after three months practice]. you can try typing tai chi into google scholar and see what papers you can find. apart from all this, it is really easy and fun to practice.
Yoga is good for suppleness. I’ve done it on-and-off over the years and found it good for that and for relaxation.
Tai Chi exercise (Tai Chi Juan) is sometimes referred to "Yoga in Motion" or "Moving Meditation". It has a large relaxation and meditative component to it. Tai Chi Chi Kung is the healing form of Tai Chi and also has lots of different exercise routines. For example, one set of exercises is purely for the healing of heart and circulation problems.
